FROM THE DESK OF EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
Its my great pleasure to welcome all our esteemed members, partners, prospective members, and business community to the online office of the Nigeria Japan Chamber of Commerce.
As you are possibly aware, Nigeria-Japan Chamber of Commerce is one of the oldest bilateral chambers of Commerce in Nigeria, having been incorporated since 1995. After a lengthy period of operations, the Chamber has been playing in the sidelines since the Nigerian economy took a hit since 2015, and consequently bilateral trade between Nigeria and Japan went low. In recent time, since the inception of Tinubu Government Nigeria economy however has taking a turn for the better following various reforms being implemented by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It might interest you to know that bilateral trading activities have picked up across board. For the first time in history, Nigeria has hit $20bn mark in Diaspora remittances and the IMF and World bank have thumped up Nigerian economic reforms and placed Nigeria on the watchlist for foreign investors to take keen interest.
As your Executive Secretary, whilst I keep charge of administrative duties of the Chamber I promise to keep you abreast with developments in global trade with particular emphasis in the bilateral trade between Nigeria and Japan.
Consequently, I welcome all the old members of the chamber both individual and corporate members back to the organization with a view to driving bilateral trade between the two countries. Currently, trade volume between Nigeria and Japan is about $10bn and total of 51 Japanese companies operating in Nigeria. With Japan’s aging population, efforts are being made to record considerable number of Nigerian companies in Japan thereby expanding trade of both countries through exports, imports and foreign investments.
Personally, I worked at the Embassy of Japan as Economics Officer for long time. And this I hope to bring the experience on board for the benefit and growth of the Chamber.
Ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the able President of Nigeria-Japan Chamber of Commerce, MANDYKING E. IJOMA, you are welcome to the new phase of Nigeria-Japan Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Jude E. MBONU
Executive Secretary,
Nigeria-Japan Chamber of Commerce.
